Why NanoString at HistoGeneX?

At HistoGeneX we integrate our NanoString gene expression services with histopathology evaluation and biomarkers. The value of the NanoString-derived data is especially powerful when interpreted in the context of histopathology. While we can adapt the platform to multiple specimen types, HistoGeneX specializes in routinely processed formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) material. 

We call this HistoInformatics(TM).

Pathology Evaluation & Specimen Processing

Our board-certified pathologists provide a thorough pathology evaluation of the specimen. Subsequently, the molecular content is extracted following rigorously developed procedures.

Available Panels

  • Cancer CN Panel. Copy number analysis of 87 genes commonly amplified or deleted in cancer.
  • PanCancer Immune Profiling Panel. 770 gene panel combines markers for 24 different immune cell types and populations, 30 common cancer antigens and genes that represent all categories of immune response including key checkpoint blockade genes

Specimen Requirements

The required number of FFPE glass slides depends on the biopsy types and cellularity. The following are general guidelines:

Large resection specimens with high cellularity - 2 sections of 5 µm

Small biopsies or specimens with low cellularity – 4 to 10 sections of 5 µm

As needed, HistoGeneX offers enrichment procedures to ensure samples have the necessary concentration. Generally, about 100 ng of total RNA (in a volume of 5 µl) is required  for most gene expression panels.

Turnaround Time

Data generation averages from 7-10 business days upon receipt of the specimen (includes FFPE block sectioning with H&E evaluation).
